When applicants sign up, it allows them to enter any phone number at all. Ideally this needs to be updated so that they can only enter a UK home number or mobile number, as on various occasions we have needed to contact a member and they have not had a valid UK or mobile number.

Unfortunately we can't restrict numbers to UK only, nor can we force users to enter "correct" numbers - they are free to type in whatever they want. I can't see how we could implement this securely without negatively impacting registration.
Perhaps a middleground would be to include the provided phone numbers on any applications made by the user, allowing you time to validate/get in touch if there are any issues?

Hi Alex,
It's not that we can't contact them - it's just that when some members have signed up they have given a home number but this has been from outside of the UK and when there has been an issue we haven't been able to contact them about it.

Please can you clarify the issues with non-UK numbers? Is it that the number is entirely invalid, or that you cannot contact foreign numbers?
